Curly Zebra was launched out of the frustration of seeing frizzy,
dried out curls when I took my daughter's hat off when dropping her off at daycare. Living in Minnesota, a winter hat is a
necessity, especially for children who play outside nearly every day.
My husband was probably the biggest complainer when it came to what our
daughters' hair looked like after taking their hats off. My daughters slept on satin pillowcases to protect their hair at
night and I thought that a satin lined winter hat might work perfectly. I searched everywhere for a satin lined winter
hat for my girls, but I found nothing that would work for small children. I knew I couldn't go another winter using
an acrylic or knit hat on their curls, so I enlisted the help of my mother to sew some lined winter hats. They worked amazingly
well! My husband was the most surprised to see how having the right hat improved the look and feel of the girls' hair. That
first winter we got so many compliments on not only how well the girls hair looked, but also on how cute the hats were. I
realized if my curly girls were having a problem with finding the right winter hat, others probably were too. Curly Zebra
was then officially launched with the help of my sister and business partner in the fall of 2009.
Curly Zebra currently offers two main styles of satin
lined hats, a pill box style and a chullo style. These hats are offered in sizes and colors for boys and girls as well as
adults. We are currently experimenting and prototyping a few other styles that we hope to have ready to launch within the
next few months.
